Free Health Checkup Camp for Children with Special Needs

On the occasion of ‘World Down Syndrome Day’, the Department of Kaumarabhritya (Ayurveda Pediatrics), SDM Institute of Ayurveda and Hospital, Bengaluru conducted a free health checkup camp for children with special needs here at Krishna Chaitanya Residential Special School on March 21st. 

38 Children and adults between the age group of 8- 27 years participated in the camp. Overall general health with growth monitoring was assessed for each child. There were children with mental retardation, Down syndrome, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and behavioral abnormalities.

 Few children were already on medications but with uncontrolled seizures. children with congenital heart diseases, refractive errors, speech delay, autism, and ADHD were also found. 

 Children were dispensed necessary medicines for general complaints. Those requiring specified tests and treatment were advised to visit SDMIAH during OPD hours with their parents. 

 Dr. Srilakshmi, Assistant Professor; Dr. Ajay and Dr. Vanaja, II PG scholars; Dr. Thanmayaee and Dr. Uday, I PG scholars, conducted the camp.

 The camp began with prayer by special kids. The management of Krishna Trust, children, and staff of the institution were present.
